    Unanswered: question about bufferpool

    Hi All.
Is there a way of calculating how much memory that DB2 is using for all the heap and buffer pools? I want try to use as much of the available memory as possible .

Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

    Buffer pools size

    This may help you...

When you have to calculate the bufferpool size first check this,
The size can be specified with a value of (-1) which will indicate that the buffer pool size should be taken from the BUFFPAGE database configuration parameter.
    The query is as follows:
    SELECT * from SYSIBM.SYSBUFFERPOOLS

Else calculate it by using following formula:
    (NPAGES*PAGESIZE)/1024

This is the way to get the bufferpool size...

you will need to add up the following to get a total of all memory that is allocated for the dbm upon startup
    util_heap_sz
    backbufsz
    restbufsz
    pckcachesz
    buffpage (bufferpools)
    locklist
    db2heap
    logbufsz
    catalogcache_sz
sortheap (If intra parallell = on)

db2 can allocate approx 1.7 gig but with the over head of the system, you should allocate anything over 1.4 gig

Please can you elaborate on sortheap(If intra parallell = on) ...

I have been under the assumption that sortheap is allocated only when needed, irrespecive of the parallelism ...

    Thanks

    Smile Re: question about bufferpool

FYI.DB2 V8 Provides the tool called "Memory Visualizer" , which you can see it dynamically .
