Angry Unanswered: SQL 7 Desktop install on 2k Professional

I'm encountering a problem I haven't come across before when installing SQL 7 Desktop (which I have done numerous times on various different systems and platforms), in that when the setup appears to be almost complete the installation display's the following error. "Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and cnfgsrv.out for more information.". This error appear to be associated with quite a few different problems and having checked microsofts KB and tried various different fix's i'm still no further along. The error mentions the cnfgsrv.out file which doesn't appear to actually exist as I have search the HDD for it and cannot find it anywhere. However I have included the contents of the sqlstp.log file below, any help would be gratefully received.

    well

Is there anything in the cnfgsvr.exe args that looks wrong?

    C:\MSSQL7\binn\cnfgsvr.exe -Silent 2 -NoSampleDB 0 -SQLPath "C:\MSSQL7\" -SQLDataPath "C:\MSSQL7\" -SortID 52 -LCIDCompStyle "1033-196609" -HWND 2294064 -User sa -Pwd

Are you installing on a drive other than C? This has caused me problems in the past?

Perhaps you could try running cnfgsvr.exe in verbose mode?

    Just ideas

not checked the arguements yet but i'll have a look, we're trying to put all of the components on C: for the time being, as you said I've heard of this causing problems if you're put different components on different drives so i've avoided that.
