we have SQL server 2000 sp2 running on Win2K Server sp3 w/ all hotfixes in place. from time to time DB becoms unresponding to out clients (2 webservers running COM+). when that happens i cant even connect to it via Query Analizer from that machine...

Q1 SQL Server locks up, PLEASE HELP! What can it be?
A1 It is likely something that is going on at the time. Suggestions:
i Run profiler traces when it occurs and analyze them.
ii Find out what the web servers were / are doing at the time e.g. (heavy reporting, some kind of reconcilliation, etc.)
iii Find out if there are massive numbers of external connections then e.g. (peaking utilization)
iv Find out if the webserver connections are blocking each other in an escalating fashion
v Find out if the webservers are spawning massive connections or queries based on logic errors in them
