    Unanswered: is archivelog started automatically ?

    Hi,

    I configured my oracle database to work in archived log mode and it worked well.

    i want to know if i have to execute :

    ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG;
    ARCHIVE LOG START;

    each time i restart the database or the archivelog is started automatically.

    thanks in advance.

    You do not have to start it each time you bounce the database. It is started automatically until you turn it off. If archiving is working well now, great. If you have problems, that would probably be another post.

    archive_log_start = true should be in your init.ora file, then the archiving will start automatically after restarting the database.

    Arrow Automatic Archiving

    To enable automatic archiving following steps should be taken.

    1) Shutdown the database and start it up in mount condition, e.g

    SQL> startup mount

    2) Enable archiving, e.g

    Sql> alter database archivelog;

    3) For automatic archiving, write following paramater in parameter file.

    log_archive_start=true

    This should solve your problem
