Unhappy Unanswered: SQL 2000 will NOT start

    Hey,
hope someone can help me here,
basically when I start up the machine,
SQL 2000 just will not start
    the event log says

    Description:
    17310 :
    SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 3564 generated fatal
    exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server
    is terminating this process.

    Data:
    0000: 9e 43 00 00 10 00 00 00 žC......
    0008: 09 00 00 00 43 00 45 00 ....C.E.
    0010: 52 00 42 00 45 00 52 00 R.B.E.R.
    0018: 55 00 53 00 00 00 00 00 U.S.....
    0020: 00 00 ..
    "

It's running as LocalServer, so is not a password problem
when trying to manually start it it just says
    "1067: service terminated unexpectedly"

    error reports are at
    http://webdev.webleicester.co.uk/test/error.zip

I *tried* to install SP2, but it just hangs on
    Verifying User

uses NT Authorization, haven't had any problem except for
this now, nothing significant has changed

    any ideas?

Is running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, with SQL Server 2000 with no SP's

    has anyone got any idea?!
am desperate to get this sorted
