My Sybase Server (ASE 11.9.2 on Windows NT ) does not release the memory occuiped by it after closing the server from SQL Advantage. It only releases the memory when I restart my machine.

If anybody having idea to solve the problem, do tell me.

well how did u " close" the server.. using sql adv

if u used the manu file -> close then u have closed the sql adv client
    not the sybase server
to close the the server connect to the server as 'sa' and execuate the command shutdown

    or using isql
isql -U sa -S urservername -Ppassword
    >shutdown
    >go

    Hiya,

I've never seen this happen except during the SQL Server days on Netware Server. That got fixed then too.

If this is repeatedly happening, the best chance you have got is to apply the last available patch for ASE 11.9.2 for your platform and NT service packs.

    Cheers

    re:

    thanks for reply mdahukm...

actually it was my typing mistake that I have written SQL Advantage instead of Sybase Central. Please tell me how to rectify this problem. Is there any patch available from Sybase. Do tell me.

    Hiya Vimal,

The problem description here is unclear.

Is the problem with the server itself or the client applications(Isql/Sybase Central)?

You can download Sybase patches from http:\\downloads.sybase.com, however you'd need a mySybase login associated to an active support contract with Sybase.

    Cheers

    Vimal,

If you want to shutdown sybase server on NT, stop it from services under control panel.
