    Cool Unanswered: Buildsmi script

What are the impacts of running buildsmi script?

How we know it runs successfully?

Is it normal to run buildsmi script periodically?

    Absolutely NOT!
This script will rebuild your sysmaster database! It is automatically run when doing an 'oninit -ivy' to initialize the database server.
Run the script and you will (probably) loose everything.

It will drop and rebuild your sysmaster database.
the thing is: If anything goes wrong here, your sysmaster database will be lost.
If it ran fine, you 're a lucky guy!

    Cool

The sysmaster database is just a bunch of hooks
into shared memory. The engine does not depend on it for normal operations so it can go away for the short time it takes buildsmi to recreate it. Some of the tools will not function properly without it but the engine will be fine. Normally you do not even have to bounce the engine afterward.
