Error Message:

[MySQL] [ODBC 3.51 Driver] Lost connection to MySQL server during query

I have downloaded from mysql.com, the MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51 Installation files (exe). After a successful install, I was able to open the ODBC Data Source Administrator and create a DSN using the MySQL 3.51 driver as a choice. My DSN values are:

Data Source Name: connMysql
Description box: null
Host or Server Name (or IP):
Database Name: americaldb
User box: root
Password box: xxxxxxxx
Port box: default 3306.
SQL Command: null
Driver Options: no options selected

After I click the "Test Data Source" button, I received the error message as noted above: [MySQL] [ODBC 3.51 Driver] Lost connection to MySQL server during query.

I receive the same error when trying to use a ASP page using VBScript.

I receive the same error with the sample database as well.

I receive the same error after following the instructions from: http://www.mysql.com/products/myodbc...ing_MyODBC_DSN

Tried Solutions:

I have restarted both servers.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51.

I have verified users allowed to the MySQL database.

I have surfed and researched other web sites and forums with no solid directions or help.

I have verified set-up several times.

I have tried the MySQL Connector/ODBC 2.50 drivers and I still receive the same error.

Call for help:

I am unsure about what direction to go, so any feedback or step by step examples of what needs to be checked is welcomed. I spent my day on this, so any help is appreciated.

Thank you ahead of time.
