Question Unanswered: What's the problem with my installation?

    hi, everyone,
i met some problems within my Sybase ASE 12.0 installation.
i ftp the source of cd-rom to some directory such as /var/sybase, and set account 'sybase' login directory to it.
i set all the environment variables, and the remain space of the directory $SYBASE(i set it to /opt/syabse) is about 2G.
when i input the install command:
    $./install -c
it do some work, and let me do some select:
    1)full installation
    2)standard installation
    3)cancel
i selected 2, and then selected the option: 1)continue, it seemed be working.
but it throwed an I/O exception to me while it processed to more than 60%.
    the error message is:
    i/o exception
invailid entry size (expected 61969 but got 61999 bytes)
have you met this kind of problem? if you met it, please tell me why?
    thank you.

    Hiya,

Did you use BINARY mode while ftp'ing the file installation tar across?

    Cheers

    Question

    yes, i did.
at first, i recorded the cdrom on win98, but the copied cdrom did not work under solaris, it appeared cutting the names of files or directories, further they were changed.
then i ftp'ed the source in binary to the directory(/var/sybase) on solaris, and it started working. but when it processed the installation more than 60%, it throwed that exception.
i don't know why? please help me. thank you.

    Hiya arphone,

If I had to do such a thing, I'd use something like "ksh for windows". Tar the install directory in Win98, zip the tar(not reqd.) and then ftp it across to UNIX in BINARY mode. This is the safest bet, and the install is guranteed to be clean.

    Cheers

    Question

    hi, Willy,

i use the tools such as winRAR, it can unpack the .tar or .tgz files,
but it seems that it can not pack the install directory to .tar or .tgz on win98.:-(
have you any other advice? thank you.
