    Unhappy Unanswered: Isql

    Hi All,

DBACCESS works in the system ( IDS 9.3 , solaris 8)
but not ISQL. The error it says is : 25588 cannot connect to Dynamic Server.

    What could be wrong?

    Regards,
    Ramesh

There have been problems with applications connecting
to Informix which have been created with some older
versions of the ClientSDK on Solaris 8.

I guess that your ISQL version has been build with
an older CSDK. You might need to upgrade your
    ISQL to a newer version.

A temporary workaround might be to configure a shared memory
(onipcshm) or pipe connection (onipcstr) and set your
INFORMIXSERVER to this dbserver before starting 'isql'.

    HTH.

    Best regards

    Ramesh,

What are the last 3 alphanumeric sequence of your ISQL and
Informix database engine version number ? For example,
IDS 9.21- UC5, the UC5 is the sequence we are looking for.
Likewise, ISQL 7.30- UC7, the UC7 is the sequence.

    Red face

Sorry for the delay in replying :

    For ISQL :

    INFORMIX-SQL Version 7.30.FC7

    Informix Dynamic Server Version 9.30.UC2

Is the problem due to FC7 and UC2 are not matching?

    Regards,
    Ramesh

ISQL seems to be a 64-Bit-Version (FC) and your IFMX databaseserver is a 32-Bit-Version (UC).

You can't use the shared-memory-connection to
connect from your your 64-bit-client to a 32-Bit but
a TCP connection might work (so forget my earlier post,
    because I didn't know that you have a 64-bit-client).

Try to configure a TCP connection (i.e. DBSERVERALIASES
in $ONCONFIG and additional entry in sqlhosts-file) and
test the connectivity thru dbaccess and isql.

However you might also consider changing your FC-version
of isql to an UC-version. A 64-bit version of isql makes no
sense from my point of view.

    Best regards
