Question Unanswered: Sybase memory usage/growth in AIX

    Hi all,

My project is currently using Sybase 11.9 on an AIX server. The "total memory" configuration parameter is set to 153600 (occupies 300MB RAM). I was wondering how much extra memory the database instance requires once it's up and running for a long period of time. Is there some kind of formula to calculate the extra usage? Another question, if Sybase takes up say an extra 150MB of RAM, will it release it back to the OS?

    TIA.

Sybase's memory footprint will NOT grow (at least with 11.9.x). Sybase pre-allocates all the memory it needs at startup.

Thanks for the info. Any idea where in Sybase docs I can find more info on this?

    Check the System Administration manual.

Can't seem to find info regarding this matter in the admin manual. All it says is the initial chunk of memory it requires for startup. Any ideas?

    TIA.
