Unanswered: <> column shows up in crosstab query

after modifing a crosstab query a column with '<>' showed up in the queries results and I have no idea why.
The change made consisted of changing an inner join to a right join on one of the three tables involved in the query. Chaning the join back eliminates the field.
    Anyone know why?

That column represents a column where the join contains no data, but there is data in the related record.

Chances are that it is actually showing you an orphaned record.

Is there any way to prevent this from showing up in the query's results, regardless if there is an orphaned record?
    Thanks,
