Question Unanswered: upgrading, but what about clients

Last week I received version 8.1 for DB2 UDB. I have a small datawarehouse running on NT which currently is version 7.1. Using components from version 7.2 such as ODBC stuff and control center got me into trouble, with all kinds of references at missing packages etc. Is there a chance of upgrading to 8.1 without having to update all clients (including foreign ones) who only use the client configuration assistent and ODBC stuff for connecting to the database and fetching data (read-only )?

Have a look at What's new for V8.1 .... Limitations of using V7 clients with V8 servers is clearly documented.
