Exclamation Unanswered: Convert from Access 95 to 2000

We have a frontend and backend (total 100MB) in Access 95 running well for some years. For various reasons, we have both front and back on one Win98 machine, and 10 users run it via windows shortcuts from their Win98 machines on a peer-to-peer network. Jet Service Pack 6 is installed.

We want to convert to Access 2000, Win2000 and then WinXP, but are running into strange errors. We converted and compiled the database to 2000 (no code changes), repaired and compacted. Then it would not open on the Win98 machines, saying it "could not find the file". We ran JetComp to compact again, then it opened on the Win98 machines.

But, even when users are in different parts of the db, errors like "Invalid Argument", "Not a valid bookmark", "Unrecognized database format 'c:\windows\TEMP\JET6C67.TMP", "...attempting to change the same data..." occur when tabbing out of a record on a subform. It seems to work ok with only 1 user.

Any advice, experience, useful websites, or solutions would be most appreciated.
