dump database files are OS specific. It's highly
improbable for a Sun Solaris dump to be accepted
    by ASE on Intel Linux.

Think that a dump database file contains the
native pages of the database. Many fields are
formatted in a OS-dependent way, so they
aren't compatible across different OS or
    hardware architectures. For instance, endianess
(whether integers are stored right-to-left or
left-to-right) is different between Intel and
most RISC processors. This bans any dump
database compatibity between Intel Linux and
    Solaris on native RISC processors.

Yes - you need to use bcp to move the data. This can be automated in a script, or you can use bcptool (see http://www.mbay.net/~mpeppler/bcptool.html)
