Unanswered: How do I get more chars?

For the first time with Sybase 11.9 I have a value in excess of 255 chars long. I thought I could use a text field, however the procedure will not accept a variable of TEXT type. So I have no way of passing the value to the procedure. ??Maybe TEXT is not what I thought it was?? Does anyone know how I can pass and store char strings in excess of 255 chars?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Up to ASE 12.5 the limit for varchar is 255 characters. The alternative is to use TEXT columns, but as you have noticed you can't use TEXT datatypes in variables or in stored procedure parameters.

You could use two (or more) 255 char columns. Or upgrade to ASE 12.5 or later where the 255 char limit has been relaxed.
