    Unanswered: explain with out "dbaccess"

    Hello.
    Can I do "explain" with out dbaccess?

    Is any shell commands or OS settings for this?

    You can embedd the dbaccess-call in
    a shell script like this:

    dbaccess stores7 <<EOF
    set explain on;
    select * from state;
    EOF

    With IDS 9.30 you can also avoid the execution
    of the query, only getting the explain output:

    dbaccess stores7 <<EOF
    set explain on avoid_execute;
    select * from state;
    EOF

    But you have to transfer your SQL statement to the databaseserver
    somehow. This could be done via dbaccess or for example
    thru an esql/c program.

    If you want to trace a specific client, you might consider
    setting the SQLIDEBUG variable and using
    'sqliprint' from the CSDK to analyze the binary output
    file.

    HTH.

    Best regards

    Eric
