    Unhappy Unanswered: Oracle 9i win 2000 and Http server

    hi everyone,

    I have installed oracle 9i and want to use the http server powered by apache, however when I click on the oracle http server I can not get the server to run. This question may be pedestrian, however when one installs oracle 9i does it include a webserver also? That is what I had understood by clicking on http server powered by apache.

    Thank you in advance

    Michelle

    Yes, 9i Does install apache by default. It should have been installed as a service and set to automatically start.

    What the error message are you getting?

    Thanks again

    Are you on Windows? If so, try Start -> Programs -> Apache HTTP Server... -> Configure Apache Server -> Edit the Apache httpd.conf Configuration File.

    There are two entries that the setup program doesn't fill in - both of them are your document root directory. They're past all of the module configuration settings. The first one is called DocumentRoot, and the second has no title but is about a screen below DocumentRoot. The text in the configuration file explains it.

    Try setting these two configuration items and restart Apache.

    Manual start Apache

    Hi

    Try starting Apache manual (when you use start-programs---etc you won't be able to see the errors)

    Navigate to $ORACLE_HOME/apache/apache

    issue

    apache -k start

    It should return an error message.

    Oracle 9i win 2000 and http server

    Hi again,

    After trying to start Apache from the DOS promt this is the error that I got

    [Sat Feb 15 10:35:45 2003] [warn] pid file c:/oracle/ora90/apache/apache/logs\ht
    tpd.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run?
    [Sat Feb 15 10:35:45 2003] [crit] Apache JServ encountered a fatal error; check
    your ApJServLogFile for details if none are present in this file. Exiting.

    Additionally after checking the JServ log file this was the error listed

    [15/02/2003 15:35:45:855] (ERROR) in init all protocols "wrapper" returned an error
    [15/02/2003 15:35:45:855] (EMERGENCY) Error initializing protocols

    Pardon my ignorance, but can you explain to me what protocol needs to be initialize, I thougt the only protocol required was http, and that is supported within oracle 9i

    Thank you in advance

    Michelle

    Hi

    There is something wrong with your jserver setup.

    Open httpd.conf (which is the config file for apache) and comment the following line to diagnose if jserver is the problem:

    Change

    # Include the configuration for Apache JServ 1.1
    include "$ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.conf"

    to

    # Include the configuration for Apache JServ 1.1
    # include "$ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.conf"

    And try restarting.

    hi again,

    I tried what you suggested, however all I got was a syntax error.

    that is

    C:\oracle\ora90\Apache\Apache>apache.exe
    Syntax error on line 3 of C:\oracle\ora90\xdk\admin\xml.conf:
    Invalid command 'ApJServAction', perhaps mis-spelled or defined
    included in the server configuration

    Thanks in advance

    Oops, ...

    Try uncommenting include "C:\oracle\prd\ora90\Apache\Apache\conf\oracle_apa che.conf".

    So

    include "C:\oracle\prd\ora90\Apache\Apache\conf\oracle_apa che.conf"

    Will become

    #include "C:\oracle\prd\ora90\Apache\Apache\conf\oracle_apa che.conf"

    I know this is not the solution to your problem but just pinpointing where the problem comes from...

    oracle 9i win 2000 and http server

    hi again

    I have commented out both
    #include "C:\oracle\ora90\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.conf"
    and
    # include "C:\oracle\ora90\Apache\Apache\conf\oracle_apache. conf"

    and now I have the http server running

    Oracle HTTP Server Powered by Apache/1.3.12 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.6.4 OpenSSL/0.9.5a
    mod_perl/1.24 running...

    can you explain to me why this two files needed to be commented out? additionally can you tell me how to test the server so i know is working properly.

    thank you so much in advance!

    Hi

    Glad it worked out..., You now know where the problem is:

    # Include the configuration for Apache JServ 1.1
    include "C:\oracle\prd\ora90\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.c onf"

    This it just what is says, this line insetrs a config file enabling the JServ 1.1. By commenting it out you have not JServer at the moment.

    #Include the Oracle configuration file for custom settings
    include "C:\oracle\prd\ora90\Apache\Apache\conf\oracle_apa che.conf"

    This file configures a lot of Oracle stuff:
    iSQLPLus
    XML
    PLSQL (psp pages)

    Apache on Windows XP Problem

    Dear Experts,

    I was wondering if anyone could kindly help me. I have an Oracle Database installed on my pc and with installation Apache was also installed. The problem I have is I cannot access the web server. I am using Windows XP. From windows if I go to start and then choose the programs I have installed, under Oracle there is an option called "Oracle HTTP Server". If I click on that folder I have the following options to choose from:

    Stop HTTP Server powered by Apache
    Start HTTP Server powered by Apache

    If I choose the either option a command promt window opens with the following message:

    ================================================== =============
    fopen: No such file or directory
    Apachie.exe: could not open document config file e:/oracle/ora92/xdk/admin/xml.conf

    Note the errors or messages above, and press the <ESC> key to exit. 26...
    ================================================== =============

    I have tried to open the above path by using START >> RUN but am given an error message telling me the file doesnt exist. On my machine I am running IIS on my localhost port 80. I thought maybe when Apache was installed there may be a problem with a conflict on port 80. So I changed the port number of IIS and tried to run the localhost hoping apache would open. However that didn't work.

    I also downloaded Apache again and installed it hoping the problem would be solved. After I done this in Windows a new window called "Apachie Service Monitor" was installed. When I open this what I see is the following:

    ================================================== ===========
    Service Status:
    - OracleOraHome92HTTPServer

    The OracleOraHome92HTTPServer is starting.
    ================================================== ===========

    In this window I have the following options:

    OK, Start, Services and Connect

    If I press "Start" I get an error message window - "The request Operation has failed"
    If I press "Services" The services window in Contol Panel/Administrative Tools/Services opens.

    I really dont know what to do. I have run out of ideas. I would be greatful if someone could kindly help me. What do I do to rectify this problem? What I want is basically Apache working and assign it a port eg 90. So if I typed in "localhost:90" in my webrowser the Apache webserver homepage would open.

    I really do hope someone could kindly help me.

    I look forward to all replys

    Thanks

    Kindest Regards
    Pungwick
