    Hi,

Is it possible to encrypt data in a table and decrypt when required?

No this is not possible with IFMX.

You can encrypt the data via the application and decrypt
it later. But this approach will only work if a single application
is accessing the data, otherwise all applications must
have the ability to encrypt/decrypt the data.

There has been a company called Protegrity. I heard some
rumors that they developed a datablade for encrypting
data in IFMX 9.x databases. But I have no additional
information on this. You might check their website:

    www.protegrity.com

With the upcoming IDS 9.40 release you can encrypt the
network traffic between client and server, but not the
    data stored in the database.

    Best regards

Protegrity stopped teh development of their encryption software for informix, because they haven't got a market.
    A shame.
