Our database 8.1.7.3 is a part of Apps 11.0.3. We have a strange situation that beats me totally.. Here goes!

Three tablespaces JAD, JAX, IWATCH:
Sometime last summer when the database was recovered from backup.. the datafiles of these tablespaces were somehow omitted.. when the database starts up without these datafiles in the backup (omitted in the startup script as well), the database opens with these ugly messages in the ALERT.log file..

Tablespace 'JAD' #80 found in data dictionary,
but not in the controlfile. Adding to controlfile.
Tablespace 'JAX' #81 found in data dictionary,
but not in the controlfile. Adding to controlfile.
Tablespace 'IWATCH' #82 found in data dictionary,
but not in the controlfile. Adding to controlfile.
File #81 found in data dictionary but not in controlfile.
Creating OFFLINE file 'MISSING00081' in the controlfile.
This file can no longer be recovered so it must be dropped.
File #82 found in data dictionary but not in controlfile.
Creating OFFLINE file 'MISSING00082' in the controlfile.
This file can no longer be recovered so it must be dropped.
File #83 found in data dictionary but not in controlfile.
Creating OFFLINE file 'MISSING00083' in the controlfile.
This file can no longer be recovered so it must be dropped.

The dba_data_files shows these datafiles as available. When i try to take the tablespace offline.. it throws me a message saying they are already offline..

I have checked to see if there are any objects in these tablespace from dba_segments.. there is none.. so what i am looking for is to be able to get these 3 tablespaces online with atleast blank datafiles..

i have tried adding a datafile to the tablespace, but still cant bring the tablespace online, as it still errors with the Missing file.. tried renaming the datafile.. didnt work either..

if someone makes this work for me.. i am ready to take them out for lunch..
