Unanswered: need to restart instance even if a change is made to the database configuration file

    Hi all,

I have an observation in our DB2 instances/databases.

I have made the change in the database configuration file for parameter "STMTHEAP" from 2048 to 8192 to accomodate to run a long query. I have disconnected all the applications connected to the database and then made a new connection and tried executing the same query. I was still getting the error. I have deactivated and activated the database, still getting the same error. When I restarted the instance, connected to the database and executed the query, then the query was running successfully.

Looks like database parameter changes are requiring instance restart to be effective. Please let me know there is something I am missing or is it the limitation with DB2?

    Hi,

Yes we need to restart the database in order to get the changes in database configuration. Similarly for instance, if you change the configuration of the database manager then we need to restart the instance. Both by disconnecting the applications.

I won't be surprised if such a thing happens on Windows platforms ? Hope you understand what I mean ...

It is really worrying if you are going to report this about Unix

    Cheers
