Unanswered: unable to connect, can't create socket

Not sure if this is the forum to ask in.

When trying to connect to my db through a php script (php4 running on iis) I get the error:

pg_connect() unable to connect to PostgreSQL server: could not create socket: Socket error, no description available. (0x0000273F)

I'm running postgres under cygwin under win98. Anyone who can give me a hint on what I might be doing wrong? I've started the postmaster process with the -i option.

did you also start the ipc-daemon?

But I think someone told me that cygwin makes some problems with win98

do you need win98 better upgrade to win2000

Be sure you started postgresql with something like:

    postmaster -iD /usr/local/pgsql/data

and check out your pg_hba.conf, you must have a line at tje end of the file with something like:

    host all 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 trust

this is if you're connecting through a network.

    hope this helps,
