    Unanswered: try to shutdown ,it seems to be hang

    Hai
    My problem is when connecting to system/manager i got this below error.My database in archive mode ,there is no space in my hard disk .How to clear archive logs .

    SQL> conn system/manager;
    ERROR:
    ORA-00257: archiver error. Connect internal only, until freed.



    Then connected to internal (8.1.6)and the try to shutdown ,it seems to be hang .What is the exact cause .Can any one explain.

    SQL> shutdown immediate;

    You say "there is no space in my hard disk ":


    You can use the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view to determine which logs you want to remove from the OS (move to another location) to enable Oracle to archive it's redo logs.
