    Unanswered: ORA-04031 and flush Shared Pool

    after my database had run for 70 days, it reports ORA-04301 errors,
    after query , I got shared pool free memory is 160m, it must be Shared Pool fragment, then I tried,
    alter system flush shared Pool;
    it runed successed, but seems no effect, and free memory is still 160m, and still report errors.

    it is ok after I reboot my database. why?

    what is your Oracle version . if it is V 8.1.7 know that there is a bug regarding the "shared pool" management indeed the bug n1727717 has been detected by oracle and is corrected with the patch 2 of this version.
    you can solve temporarily this problem by increasing the size of the "shared pool" then stop/start the instance to take it into account (see the initXXX file to change it) but the problem will occur again in a longer term but will appear anyway. patch id : 17.
    good luck

    You will need to reboot the database, however; the problem will
    persist unless you pin objects in the SGA. Look for the objects
    that have been reloaded multiple times and get them pinned ...

    See attached file for finding objects that are candidates for pinning...

    Also if you are using 8.1.7, there is an "undocumented"
    init parameter ...

    --- You can put this in you INITxxx.ora file ---
