    Unanswered: simple left Outer join question?!

    Hi,

    in Oracle 8, joins are built using the join operators, I ahve the following SQL statement: (simplifying a lot):

    select k.name,
    from klar k, klar k2
    where k.fieldinfo (+) = 'open'
    AND k2.fieldinfo (+) = 'undef';

    How could I write this query for oracle 9 using the words left outer join?

    thanks a ton!

    I don't think that SQL statement makes sense as it doesn't join k to k2 at all, so I will illustrate with a different one.

    SELECT dept.dname, emp.ename
    FROM dept, emp
    WHERE emp.deptno (+) = dept.deptno;

    becomes:

    SELECT dept.dname, emp.ename
    FROM dept
    LEFT OUTER JOIN emp ON emp.deptno = dept.deptno;
