I am not familiar with Progress at all, however I have been tasked with extracting data from a Progress 4 database into an Access database.
Now reading the posts here there do not appear to be many tools available to perform this function.
The version of Progress we are using is the DOS version 4. I have tried to use the export to DIF format files, however with the limitations within DOS, I can only get very small chunks of data out at a time. The database we are using has been in place since about 1992.
Can anyone give me any ideas as to what I can do to get this information out into Access?
Thanks for getting back, below are the answers to your questions.
How big is your database? The Database file is the one with a .db extension.
Progress comes in three "flavours": Run-time, Run-Query, and Development. Which flavour do you have? If you are not sure, look in the DLC directory for a file called version. This will tell you.
The content of the VERSION file is: PROGRESS version 5.2I as of Thu FEB 22 1990.
What format do you want the data in? ASCII File, comma seperated?
Do you need all the tables dumped, or just some of them?
Does the sequence of records with the dump matter to you?
The tables are keyed, therefore the sequence should not cause a problem.
Thanks for you help so far, I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
