    Unanswered: db2cc - Error / Inconsistent DB?

    Hi there.

    I'm running into huge problems and since I've nearly no DB2 experience I'm close to surrender.. =(

    I managed to install DB2 on my Linux-Box in spite of all the rpm-Problems. I managed to get the db2cc-Tool running, by editing the script and removing some (for my system) dump tests (java-related).
    I moved a DB from Windows to Linux and recreated all Views.. (seems there's no way to move them as well?)
    I used it for nearly a week until I noticed that I get some Problems connecting from Windows-Clients using JDBC..
    I installed the latest FixPack (again rpm-trouble, but I got it up and running).

    My Problem right now is: Yesterday I had a crash due to a power loss.. And I cannot use the db2cc since then. I have to set the LANG variable before to see a readable font and no other Locale but LANG=de_DE works. (I'm from germany, but I don't recall to install only german resources?)
    The mein Problem with that is, that I get some really stupid errors only in german.. That's bad if you want to google for a resolution.

    Right now I get something like "A database agent couldn't be started or was forced to shutdown" or something similar. I searched this board and read that I should stop everything (db2admin stop, db2stop for the instance), kill every running db2-process and remove the ipc-resources. I did all this, but I get the same error again after restarting db2cc..

    In addition I get one dialog every 3-4 seconds that tells me that no "exemplar - mapping exists"? Sorry, I don't even understand the german Error-Message, so I cannot translate it better..

    Please give me a hint where I can search/start...

    Blafasel,

    please help us help you ;-)
    - Your environment? (Linux distribution; DB2 V?)
    - Did you check the db2diag.log? Which messages do you find there?

    Give also a look at the Linux HOWTO for DB2. Maybe it can help you.

    Gentoo 1.4, DB2 V7.1FP9 (I think it's called V7.2 since FP3..)

    db2diag: The only unusual thing that I see is in the instance - log:

    ************************************************** ******************
    * *
    * DB2 USERS : *
    * ----------- *
    * An internal processing error occurred on this DB2 instance. *
    * *
    * A stack trace-back for the process in which the error was *
    * detected may be written to a trap file in the directory *
    * containing this log. The name of the file will be 'tppppp.nnn' *
    * where ppppp is the process id, and nnn is the node number. *
    * *
    * *
    * ALL DB2 PROCESSES ASSOCIATED WITH *
    * THIS INSTANCE HAVE BEEN SHUTDOWN. *
    * *
    * Contact your technical service representative with the *
    * information from this log and from the auxiliary trace and dump *
    * files in the same directory. *
    ************************************************** ******************

    This doesn't help, since the trace-files do not contain anything that helps me (Just the environment-settings).

    Give also a look at the Linux HOWTO for DB2. Maybe it can help you.

    I read this FAQ, but it's quite - hard to read.. It lacks a good structure, imho. And it doesn't mention my distribution, which is a little different from most other distributions I know.. (neither rpm, nor debs, most packages built from sources)

    I cannot find a solution to this problem. db2cc is still unusable due to

    a) one popup with this message: (sorry, it's german and I'm not able to get/read messages in other languages. If I set LANG to something other than de_DE every font is unreadable.. ?

    SQL1224N

    "Ein Datenbankagent konnte nicht für die Anforderung gestartet werden, oder er wurde aufgrund eines Systemabschlusses der Datenbank bzw. durch den Befehl FORCE beendet. SQLSTATE=55032

    b) masses of popups with the following text. Every 2-3 seconds I get a new one, just because the db2cc is open.

    SQL1427N

    "Eine Exemplarzuordnung existiert nicht"

    I can use the DB2 nevertheless.. I can connect via jdbc, execute statements, even a quite big application using jsp/java/tomcat works.
    But I'm not able to use this ... db2cc. Can anyone please tell me that it's my fault, that the error messages are easy to understand and the problem isn't hard to solve? Currently I'm losing my faith in IBMs Software...

    Thx,
    Ben

    You are not attached to the instance.
    Open CLP and run the command Attach to attach to a perticular instance.

    Here's the error message in English:

    SQL1224N A database agent could not be started to service a
    request, or was terminated as a result of a database
    system shutdown or a force command.

    Explanation: The message may be attributed to any of the
    following cases.

    o The database manager has not been started on the database
    server

    o The database manager was stopped

    o The database manager has already allocated the maximum number
    of agents

    o The database agent was forced off by the system
    administrator

    o The database agent was terminated due to an abnormal
    termination of a key database manager process

    o The application is using multiple contexts with local
    protocol. In this case the number of connections is limited
    by the number of shared memory segments to which a single
    process can be attached. For example, on AIX, the limit is
    ten shared memory segments per process.

    Additional federated server cases are:

    o The maximum number of processes per user (maxuproc on AIX) at
    the operating system level has been exceeded.

    o In the client/server environment using the TCP/IP protocol,
    the port number assigned to the TCP/IP service name on the
    client is not the same as the port number on the server.

    This situation can be detected by federated server or by the data
    source.

    User Response: Reissue the database request. If a connection
    cannot be established, then ensure that the database manager has
    been started successfully. Additionally, ensure that the
    maxagents database manager configuration parameter is
    appropriately configured.

    Federated system users, should also:

    o Isolate the problem to the data source rejecting the request
    (see the problem determination guide for procedures to
    follow to identify the failing data source) and ensure that
    the communication subsystem is active and that the database
    manager and required communication protocol server processes
    have been started on the database server.

    o For AIX operating systems, check the setting of maxuproc and
    change it if needed. maxuproc restricts the number of
    processes that can run under a given federated server. The
    default setting is 40.

    You can check the current setting of maxuproc with the
    command:

    .
    lsattr -E -l sys0

    To view the number of processes currently running under a
    given federated server, use the command:

    ps -ef | grep instdj1 | wc -l

    where "instdj1" is the instance name of the federated
    server.

    To change maxuproc, use the command:

    chdev -l sys0 -a maxuproc='nn'

    where nn is the new integer value of maxuproc.

    If the application is using multiple contexts with local protocol,
    then either reduce the number of connections in the application,
    or switch to another protocol (for example, TCP/IP). For users
    on AIX version 4.2.1 or newer, the environment variable EXTSHM
    can be set to ON to increase the number of shared memory segments
    to which a single process can be attached.

    sqlcode: -1224

    sqlstate: 55032

    -----------------------------------------------

    Hope this helps

    A basic question ? Is your control Centre on Linux or windows ..

    Check your DB2INSTACE Environment Variable ... What is the output ?

    Click on the instance(s) and then 'Attach..' to it(them) ...

    And, my opinion on IBM Software .... IBM does good server side software , but when it comes to GUIs (like cc) especially, the java ones, they are miserable ...

    Cheers
