    Unanswered: Installing db2 8.1 problem

    Hi,

I tried to install db2 v.8.1 to Suse Linux S/390.
I run db2setup and I got message of undefined DISPLAY variable.

    What is this variable about?

I have no experience with db2 v8.1 on Linux, but I have installed the db2 v7.2 and I had no problem.

    Is in v8.1 something new?

    Thanks,
    Grofaty

    Re: Installing db2 8.1 on Linux S/390

    Hi,

I am using the Putty v0.49 (telnet program). I was trying to install the DB2 with root user.

    I did this:
    1. export DISPLAY=0
    2. echo $DISPLAY
    REZULT:0
    3. ./db2setup
    4. I got message:

DBI1190I db2setup is preparing the DB2 Setup Wizard which will
guide you through the program setup process. Please wait.

The DISPLAY variable is not set properly. Ensure that the DISPLAY variable
is set properly and that permissions are set properly to open windows on the
display specified, then rerun the command.

Let me give another shot at it :

    export DISPLAY=<hostname or ipaddress>:0.0

    eg: export DISPLAY=myhosty:0.0

    Re: Installing db2 8.1 on Linux S/390

    Hi,

I don't need help any more. I found out what was the problem.

To install DB2 v.8.1 on Linux S/390 it is required to have a X-windows ready tool to complete the installation process.

I installed the Hammingbird Exceed (X-windows redy) on my Windows computer and installation went without problems.

This is new in DB2 v.8.1. In DB2 v.7.2 I could install the DB2 with ordinary client (witch does not support the X-windows).
