    Unanswered: db2start failure

    Hey,

I installed DB2 UDB V8.1 after downloading from the IBM site. I have successfully installed on 2 partitions across the domain.

When I run db2start from the instance owning partition I get the following error:

    C:\>db2start
    03-26-2003 19:29:49 1 0 SQL6048N A communication error occurred during
START or STOP DATABASE MANAGER processing.
    03-26-2003 19:29:51 0 0 SQL6031N Error in the db2nodes.cfg file at line
    number "2". Reason code "10".
SQL8011W One or more database partitions does not have a valid DB2 license key
installed for the "DB2 Enterprise Server Edition" product.
SQL1032N No start database manager command was issued. SQLSTATE=57019

    The db2nodes.cfg looks like this:

    Db2nodes.cfg

    0 disgn-028 DISGN-028 0
    1 disgn-34 0

disgn-028 is the instance-owning partition and disgn-34 is the other partition and I have included the ip address in the hosts file.

    The db2diag.log looks like this:

    db2start

The problem is your db2nodes.cfg file. In the first line you are specifying all the entries i.e. nodenum, hostname, netname and logical port but in the second only three where third being the logical port rather than netname. My solution, try without the third parameter. Because it's 0 by default so you don't need it.

    My db2nodes.cfg now looks like:

    0 disgn-028 disgn-028
    1 disgn-34 disgn-34

    and the output looks like:

    C:\>db2stop
    03-27-2003 16:40:21 0 0 SQL1064N DB2STOP processing was successful.
    SQL1064N DB2STOP processing was successful.

Now node 1 is not recognized at all.

    When my db2nodes.cfg looks like:

    0 disgn-028 disgn-028 0
    1 disgn-34 disgn-34 0

    the output looks like:

    C:\>db2start
03-27-2003 16:41:45 0 0 SQL5043N Support for one or more communications protocols failed
    SQL1063N DB2START processing was successful.

    and the db2diag.log looks like:

    2003-03-27-16.41.44.015000 InstanceB2 Node:000
    PID:1556(db2syscs.exe) TID:640 Appid:none

DIA3001E "NETBIOS" protocol support was not successfully started.

    2003-03-27-16.41.45.109000 InstanceB2 Node:000
    PID:1556(db2syscs.exe) TID:1936 Appid:none
    base sys utilities startdbm Probe:911

    ADM7513W Database manager has started.

I tried to unset NETBIOS using the following command:

db2set DB2COMM=TCPIP but it still shows TCPIP, NETBIOS and
db2set DB2COMM=' ' still shows the same result.

    Please help...

    Re: db2start failure

Have you defined enough ports in the services file on each node, you should have atleast 2 for each node in the services subdirectory of etc for the FCM comunications. Check the manual Installation and Configuration Supplement for more info on this.

IN MY PREVIOUS POSTING I HAD TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM WAS NOT RECOGNIZING PARTITION 1. I GOT A SOLUTION FROM ONE OF THE GUYS IN COMP.DATABASES.IBM-DB2. THE SOLUTION IS:

It might be because you don't have a line-feed at the end of the second line in db2nodes.cfg.

I am now getting the following error:

    C:\>db2start
    03-28-2003 14:48:52 0 0 SQL6048N A communication error occurred during
START or STOP DATABASE MANAGER processing.
    03-28-2003 14:48:52 1 0 SQL6048N A communication error occurred during
START or STOP DATABASE MANAGER processing.
SQL1032N No start database manager command was issued. SQLSTATE=57019

    C:\>db2 ? sql6048n

SQL6048N A communication error occurred during START or STOP
    DATABASE MANAGER processing.

    Explanation:

A TCP/IP communication error occurred while the START or STOP
DATABASE MANAGER command was trying to establish connection with
all the nodes defined in the sqllib/db2nodes.cfg file.

    User Response:

    Do the following:

o Ensure that the node has the proper authorization defined in
the .rhosts or the host.equiv files.

BOTH THE MACHINES ARE IN THE SAME DOMAIN. I WONDER WHETHER THERE IS ANYTHING I NEED TO DO REGARDING THE ABOVE? BTW, THIS IS IN THE WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT.

o Ensure that the application is not using more than (500 +
    (1995 - 2 * total_number_of_nodes)) file descriptors at the
    same time.

I DON'T THINK THIS IS APPLICABLE B'COS I HAVE JUST INSTALLED THE DB AND AM TRYING TO START THE DATABASE.

o Ensure all the Enterprise Server Edition environment
variables are defined in the profile file.

IS THERE ANY OTHER PARAMETER I NEED TO SET?

THIS IS ON THE INSTANCE OWNING PARTITION.

    C:\>db2set -all
    [e] DB2PATH=C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB
    [i] DB2_SQLROUTINE_COMPILER_PATH=c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\b
    in\vcvars32.bat
    [i] DB2SATELLITEID=manager
    [i] DB2ACCOUNTNAME=TCS_AMEX_BLR\manager
    [i] DB2INSTOWNER=DISGN-028
    [i] DB2PORTRANGE=60000:60009
    [i] DB2NBADAPTERS=3
    [i] DB2INSTPROF=\\DISGN-028\DB2-DB2
    [i] DB2COMM=TCPIP, NETBIOS
    [g] DB2SYSTEM=DISGN-028
    [g] DB2PATH=C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB
    [g] DB2INSTDEF=DB2
    [g] DB2ADMINSERVER=DB2DAS00

THIS IS ON THE OTHER PARTITION.

    C:\>db2set -all
    [e] DB2PATH=C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB
    [i] DB2INSTPROF=C:\PROGRA~1\IBM\SQLLIB
    [g] DB2SYSTEM=DISGN-34
    [g] DB2PATH=C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB
    [g] DB2INSTDEF=DB2
    [g] DB2ADMINSERVER=DB2DAS00

o Ensure the profile file is written in the Korn Shell script
    format.

I DON'T THINK IT IS APPLICABLE AS THIS ENVIRONMENT IS IN WINDOWS.

o Ensure that all the host names defined in the db2nodes.cfg
file in the sqllib directory are defined on the network and
    are running.

I PINGED FROM BOTH THE MACHINES AND BOTH OF THEM ARE ALIVE.

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT. YOU ARE SO PROMPT AND VERY HELPFUL. THANKS A LOT GUYS.

    Hey,

Finally my partitions are up and running.

    What I did was:

    Fan Ruo Xin suggested...

On Windows NT, db2nodes.cfg should be like the following:
    db2nodes.cfg
    ==========
    nodenumber hostname computernaem logical_port netname

So in your case, it should be like
    0 disgn-028 DISGN-028 0
    1 disgn-34 disgn_34 0

Another way is you don't need edit the db2nodes.cfg manually. You can
create an instance, then add the db partitition (on disgn_34) later:

    db2start dbpartitionnum 1 add dbpartitionnum hostname disgn_34 port 1
    computer disgn_34 user password
/* db2 will automatelly add the second partition into db2nodes.cfg.
    db2stop
    db2start

    Good Luck
    FRX

    Thanks to Fan Ruo Xin...
