Unanswered: drop device w/o droping database

    hello guys,

I have been trying to sp_dropdevice but I keep getting the error, 'device can not be droped , because database still using it'.. thingy.

Now I have tried mirror and unmirror the device and then issuing the sp_dropdevice, example:

    1) my device logical name is FOO1

    disk mirror name='FOO1', device="c:\temp\foo1.dbf"

    disk unmirror name='FOO1'

    sp_dropdevice FOO1

I am not going to need this device on the future anymore I just need to get rid of it..

    but it does not work..

    any suggestions ?

    thanks

You don't mention it, but is it your position that it is not in use by a database? It makes sense that a device cannot be dropped if a database or a portion of a database still resides on it. Agreed?
