an MSAccess db I look after has become corrupted and i have no idea how to fix it. It asks me for a password but when I type the correct one in, it comes up with

'The database xxxxxx needs to be repaired or isn't a database file
You or another user may have unexpectedly quit ....' etc.

Then when I click 'yes' to repair it, I get another message:

'Not a valid password'

click 'ok' followed by :

'The database xxxx can't be repaired or isn't a Microsoft Access database file'

So I can't repair and compact, and I have tried to create a new db and import this corrupted one - but that leads to the message above.

Any ideas?

Other notes - I had been working on the db just the night before doing some minor work, and also took a backup. The backup seems to be fine - except there is a day's worth of missing data.

The db is used over a network by about 4 users. We have had a corruption problem about a year ago but I could use the repair db command to fix it.
