Unanswered: Removing Oracle8i from my unix box

    Hi,

How does one remove Oracle8i entirely from my unix box? I mean everything that is conected to Oracle. I can do it Windows, but I can not find a document outlining the steps for my Unix box. Your help is greatly appriciated.

This is what I did to delete a database and I was successful. You can try the same.

    1. export ORACLE_HOME=/disk2/OraHome1
    2. export ORACLE_SID=test (instance that you want to delete)
    3. $ORACLE_HOME/bin/svrmgrl
    4. connect internal
    5. shutdown -- to shutdown the database
    6. cd /disk2/dbs (where you created the database)
    7. find . -name '*test*'
    8. rm -f *test*
    9. cd /etc
    10. vi listener.ora -- delete SID_DESC for test.
    11. vi oratab -- delete the line with test
    12. vi tnsnames.ora -- delete test DESCRIPTION.
    13. cd $ORACLE_HOME
    14. find . -name '*test*'
    15. delete the above files.
    16. cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    17. vi listener.ora tnsnames.ora (delete any reference to test)

Thank you very much. That did the trick.
