    Unanswered: Import Hangs

    Hello,

I have a dump of size 5.2 GB . When trying to import on Redhat Linux 7.2 , Oracle 8.1.7 on INTEL hardware ,it imports the first table name and then hangs.
When checked for object count , the following is the output

    COUNT(OBJECT_TYPE) OBJECT_TYPE
    ------------------ --- ---------------
    1 DATABASE LINK
    156 SEQUENCE
    1 TABLE

Can anyone please give some tips on how to proceed with the import.

    Thanks in advance.

A couple of things. When you said it 'hangs', for how long? Did you ever get an error from the process? Some large tables can take an hour or two depending on the hardware, the number of rows and how many indexes it must create. Did you log the output of the import job?

I hope I don't muddy the waters, but I know import used to have a problem with dump files over 2Gb in size. I don't recall if this has been resolved or not. Maybe somebody else has the answer.

If you got errors, please post them. If you didn't get errors, please let us know how long you waited before declaring the process as 'hung'. Also, if you know what table (or other object) was being imported and how many rows are in the table, please post that as well.

    HTH,
    Patrick
