    How can I or what is the process of clearing a 3 gig transaction log?

    Backup the transaction log then shrink database.

    Following command can be used:-

    BACKUP LOG DatabaseName
    WITH NO_LOG

    GO

    DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (DatabaseName TRUNCATEONLY )
    GO

    One more way u can do is that detach your db from SQL Server using enterprise manager, Delete 3 gig transaction log and then attach again. A new small log file will be automaticallyy created by SQL Server. But you have to disconnect all the connections for using this approach.
