    Unanswered: row_number function

    HI,

    I have an table ENTITY with following schema.

    ENTITY_ID CHAR(10) PRIMARY KEY

    OVER_LIMIT DECIMAL (4)
    SHORT_LIMIT DECIMAL (4)
    DBA_NAME CHAR(10)

    I am firing following query but getting following error message.

    SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY OVER_LIMIT, SHORT_LIMIT) AS NUMBER, SHORT_LIMIT, ENTITY_ID FROM ENTITY ORDER BY OVER_LIMIT, SHORT_LIMIT

    SQL0440N No function by the name "ROW_NUMBER" having compatible arguments was
    found in the function path. SQLSTATE=42884

    I am not getting what's the problem, why its saying that ROW_NUMBER function is not available. Please let me know asap.

    Thanks
    Naresh

    Re: row_number function

    Hi Snaresh,

    I didn't didn't see any problems with your query.

    You can try this:

    SELECT ROW_NUMBER(), A.* FROM <WhatEverTable> A

    If you still get an error, check this query against some table in the sample database, and then file a bug report with IBM.

    Hi Johann,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

    Still problem is persisting. I believe i need to look in to the bugs section at IBM.

    Thanks
    Naresh
