    Unanswered: multiple listeners

    I have Oracle 7.3.4 running on a Solaris box. I have installed Oracle 9.0.2 on the same box without much problem. Although, I having some problems with listener.

    a). Do I need to run 2 different listener processes, one for 7.3.4 and another for 9.0.2 respectively?

    b). If yes, then do I need to edit /var/opt/oracle/listener.ora?

    Basically, I am not sure how to setup and run a seperate listener process for the new 9.0.2 databse, to run simultaneously with the 7.3.4 listener on the same box!!!

    Any help will be deeply appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    You don't have to do that. You can have the 9i listener listens for both 9i and 7 databases. Simple add entry for Oracle 7 db into the 9i listener.ora file:

    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /apps/oracle/product/90110ee)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = 9iDB)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /apps/oracle/product/90110ee)
    (SID_NAME = 9iDB)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = 7.3.4DB)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /apps/oracle/product/73400ee)
    (SID_NAME = 7.3.4DB)
    )
    )

    Hope that helps,
