    Unanswered: shared memory realm already exists

    Hai

    I had run the statspack as given Library Hit Ratio: 81.92 %

    and shutdown the database increase the shared pool size .When starting up the database (8.1.6) as giving the below error message and unable to open the database


    SQL> conn internal;
    Connected to an idle instance.
    SQL> startup
    ORA-27100: shared memory realm already exists

    You're environment variables are not correct.

    This could be because the Background processes are still running and SGA exists.

    Do kill the Oracle Process for that instance.

    After that check ipcs -a and see all the Shared Memory area is Cleaned.
    If not, use ipcs -s to clean.

    ipcs -a OR ipcs -s? where and how?

    Thank you for your reply.
    In fact I was trying this command in Win2K server and found nothing.
    Is there any way similar this could be done in W2k that you know of?

    I don't think there is a parallel to this on NT/2000 as oracle spawn only one process apparantly on NT/2000.

    You can do couple of things on NT/2000 in case you get the error you mentioned.

    1)Go to services stop the oracle.

    2) check for the Environmental variables if they are set correctly.
    Most likely this is the cause.

    Check ORACLE_SID/ORACLE_HOME set correctly.


    3) CTRL+ALT+DEL and check for the Oracle Running processes and kill them.

    4) REBUILD the services -- last resort.
    Do oradim and rebuild reservices and restart the machine.
