    Unanswered: Use RMAN or ... ??

    Hi all,

    Just wondering what's better to use as a backup and recovery tool, RMAN or some other third party software or a combinmation of both? How do products like ArcServe and Veritas compare with RMAN? What backup and recovery tools do you use? Why?

    Thanks.

    RMAN scripts are portable on any platform, so you write them once and use them everywhere.

    Also RMAN will backup only blocks changed from the last backup, etc...

    To backup on tape you still need Media Management Software as Veritas NetBackup, Legato NetWorker, Backup Exec, etc. RMAN just streams the backup data into the tape library using common API.

    Why - because is easy. In 9i for instance to backup/restore db you need simple commands as : backup database; restore database;

    Hope that helps,
