Question Unanswered: Import, export + recreating a database

    Hi everybody!
This is going to sound really basic but here goes...
In my time as a DBA i've never really had to use imp/exp to recover a whole database - however now i need to test an imp/exp backup strategy to support recreating a 734 database.
I've tried a few times but can't seem to get it working - here's what i'm doing:

    1. Taking full export of original db.
    2. Recreating original db by running Create Database script to create db, redo log groups and system datafile
    3. Recreating all tablespaces
    4. Recreating users, roles + profiles.

At this point i think i should be able to run the import to complete the restore but i can't - it tells me that the STANDARD package isn't there...
Do i need to run catalog + catproc? And if so can i do the import straight after that or am i missing some other steps? Are there any particular import parameters that need to be set?
One last question - is it the same procedure for 8i? (the next one i have to test!)

I know this is basic DBA stuff but any help, or indeed pointers to documentation would be greatly appreciated.

you have to run at least :

    connect internal
    @/opt/oracle/8.1.7/rdbms/admin/caths.sql optional
    @/opt/oracle/8.1.7/rdbms/admin/otrcsvr.sql optional
    connect system/manager

it is for 7.3 the same scripts but from another home

and don't forget to grant connect, resource rights to the user you are going to import ...

    Smile Process

I have some further info on this in case anyones interested:

    1. Shutdown lsnrs, CM, web, forms etc
    2. Take full export
    3. shutdown db
    4. delete all dfiles, redo logs + ctl files
    5. Startup nomount
    6. Run create db script creating redo logs + system dfile
    7. run catalog
    8. run catproc
    9. create extra RBS in system dfile
    10. Run import
    11. Compile invalid objects.
    12. New imported db!

You don't need to create any other tspaces apart from system, nor any users or roles as all of that is done in the import.

Not sure why you think pubbld needs to be run as PUBLIC user is imported - same goes for all users and roles granted to them.

Also you run the import as system then you don't need to grant connect/resource...
