    Unanswered: Ora Install

    Dear Freind

I have a standalone PC with w98 & linux. I am trying to install Oracle 8i Rel9(8.1.6) for Intel Linux on Red Hat Linux 7. I have created dba & oinstall gr & oracle user. Then I set env var as "# DISPLAY=". After mounting the cdrom within oracle user I am gettin an error saying "Can't open display. Set the Display & then Try".Then again I set the env var as "# DISPLAY=
    # export display # xhost +", now it says unable to open display "". Please help me. After setting display env var how & where I have to set the PATH env var, is it necessary.

Also why is it necessary to set DISPLAY env var.

    Have a nice day.

    Thank u.

You have to setup the DISPLAY variable because since 8i , Oracle uses only GUI installer - OUI. There is no more character based one.

After you setup the DISPLAY and xhost +hostname, you have to open xterm in order to be in XWindow env. There you setup PATH, ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME, etc...

    Hope that helps,

    Ensure that you have
X11Forwarding set to yes in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file.
