Unanswered: ORA-02005: implicit (-1) length not valid for this bind or define datatype

without posting all the code .. basically I have a schema and code that on a UAT box runs fine .. but on the prod box produces this error!

does any have any quick notion about what the general causes of this could be when using 8.1.7 through ADO 2.5??

    many thanks

    Hi Antony,

I haven't checked that specific error but are the two boxes the same Oracle version and have they the same compatibility parameter?

    Try this on both machines
    select *
    from v$parameter
    where name = 'compatible'

Alternatively are your connection strings the same for production and test?

    Hi Antony,

    I'm afraid I don't know either then :-(

I had a quick look in the oracle docs, and that error isn't explained any further than the message you're already getting. I had a quick look on Google and Google groups. There is some info about it but it all appears to be dependant on what you're accessing Oracle with (Perl, VB etc).

Maybe there will be something there that can help more?

    Cheers

    Similiar Issues, but with Netscape

I am using netscape 4.06, 4.73 & 4.76 to access data using OAS and PL/SQL through a webpage and all is returned fine. When using browser version netscape 4.79, sometimes queries are fine, but on other terminals queries return the following error:

ORA-02005 "implicit (-1) length not valid for this bind or define datatype"

Did you find any resolution with this?
