    What is difference between ORACLE_BASE & ORACLE_HOME.

    Please do yourself and the community a favor and setup an account at otn.oracle.com. Then download the installation documentation for the version of Oracle you are installing. This documentation will cover the majority of the areas you have questions about.

    $ORACLE_HOME is sub-directory of $ORACLE_BASE. For example, if your $ORACLE_BASE is /apps/oracle, then you will have

    ORACLE_HOME=${ORACLE_BASE}/product/817ee (or whatever version you want to put as last parameter - 816se, 901ee, etc.)
