This is my own doubt after reading these questions.
Why is it required to have a specific Oracle 9i version for Solaris ?
Why is it required to get a specific version for a specific platform ?
What is Platform independance then after all?

If not, what can I use?
There is no Oracle9i release for Solaris(x86)
From the certification matrix on Metalink:
RDBMS 8.1.7 was to be the terminal release for this platform. It is now going to be certified with Oracle 10g (currently Projected). There will NOT be any certification with Oracle 9i.
