, then i installed orcle 9i. i was trying to name the same database name ,
but it said that name was already existing, after deleting everything,

how do i delete the old database name? or

    Re: database name

You can upgrade existing database if you want to preserve existing data. Or you can remove database name from oratab and reuse exising files.
    Hope it helps.

    Thumbs up

As you said - you didn't delete the database with the DBCA. So the registry key for Oracle still has a record of this SID.

To use the same SID for new database, you have to remove the record from the registry. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> ORACLE and do a search for your old SID. Delete of update to "" these entries.

Next time when you want to remove Oracle from your box, make sure read and follow the complete procedure. A nice one can be found - Here

    Hope that helps,
