    Unanswered: Decrease Alert.log

    Hi,

    i have an alert.log from 200MB.
    Can you decrease the alert.log in any way ?

    Are you talking about the Oracle alert log found in .../bdump ?
    (xxxxALRT.LOG) ??

    If so, save anything that you want to keep in it (if there is anything)
    and just delete it. It is just a text file that Oracle appends to ...

    SIDalertlog file grows indefinetely until you do something.

    You can copy the old file to some other name or delete it. The first time Oracle needs to write to it, if doesn't exists will create a new SIDalert.log file. On UNIX I have nice shell script to check the size and also for any error messages, to rename the old file - so all is kept for later review. Just an idea.
