Unanswered: what are new changes when ...

    Hi all,
I am working as a DBA with db2v.2 and aix
recently we have transfered our applications to new powerfull box(somthing like SHARK) with 8 cpu and we expect to have big improvment in performance, I need your idea about what changes I should do in db and dbm cfg and OS rather than before ? in old box with 4 cpu I used

    1-SMS with 4 containers for userspace1
    2- bufferpool size 100000
    3- raid 5
    .
    .
    .
    I have plan
    1-to increase containers from 4 to 8
2-for now using the same SMS
3-BP size from 100000 to 200000 and increase DBHEAP and relative parameters
    4-raid 5
    anything else?
I apreciate if you share your ideas with me
    Thanks

    Hi,

This will probaly not help but according to my knowleadge the SHARK is not AIX type of machine. SHARK is nickname for Enterprice storage server. SHARKS are only the disks. In this SHARKS are 2 processors witch the main tasks are optimizing the I/O access - that is the main reason why the SHARKS are so fast. You probably have some kind of RISC box witch connects to SHARKS (disks).

    Hope this helps,
    Grofaty

Ideally, your performance should be automatically improved ....

I'm not sure which of the following are valid for V2 ...

    db2set parameters DB2_PARALLEL_IO and DB2_STRIPED_CONTAINERS ...

You might need to revise your EXTENTSIZE and PREFETCHSZ ....

    Cheers
