    Unanswered: SQL Server Default Port

After starting SQL Server I did a scan on all of the ports on my computer and port 1433 was not open. Is that right?

    Re: SQL Server Default Port

I also can't telnet to that port, it says: Could not open connection to the host on port 1433. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Check with Netadmin whether any other port is defined or configured to use that SQL server traffic.

Create an ALIAS to the server from client to connect from QA or EM.

why do I create an alias? do I use TCP/IP and what do I put as the alias name? should that be different from the server name?

ALIAS mention the servername or IP address under the client network utility.
