    Unanswered: ISAM vs PAGE acces

    Hi folks,

In sysmaster's table 'sysptprof', what is the difference between
    'isreads' and 'pagreads' ?

In toehr words, what is the difference between an ISAM access and a PAGE access ?

    Any help highly appreciated,

    P.

ISAM reads are reads comparable with COBOL.

onstat -p shows you this difference very well (2nd line)

In Cobol when you had to select from a file, you had to
    1. Open the file.
    2. issue a 'start'
    3. read next

It is just a layer in the sql execution process.
a isread is practically the same as a SELECT.

Why are there sometimes more page reads? f.ex when the read ahead stuff is turned on.
An isread can also be a bufread.

Thank you so much for that.

I am looking for some experts to do a few (paid) stuff, if you're interested, can you send an email to prae@orinux.com ?
