Unanswered: fixpack upgrade to fixpack 8 from 3

    We tried to run the
db2admin stop command as the db2as owner and the db2 is hanging after we shut down the other details as mentioned in the db2 fixpack readme. any advice? Thanks

    fixpack problem update

We rebooted the system, installed the fixpack6 release install file with no errors. When we followed the release notes to update the instance and db2as DAS we get errors. We cannot get the instances updated nor can we start back up the database.

    das and no errors

here is the odd thing, we get no db2diag log errors. I did check the
db2iupdt.log files and found no useful details. then I ran db2kill_all
to stop the runaway process. Still not sure how to proceed but running the db2iupdt script with -d option to debug the errors. Will keep you all posted with what I find. IBM needs to make their Fixpack documentation more clear! Never realized what a pain fixpack upgrades were thank goodness its not a production db2 fixpack upgrade.

Have you upped the logging to level 5?

It will give you more diagnostic info in db2diag.log

    To up the logging level:

db2 update dbm cfg using diaglevel 5
    db2stop
    db2start

To put it back to the way it was:

db2 update dbm cfg using diaglevel 5
    db2stop
    db2start

    fix to the problem

I worked the problem thru and the solution:

    1. db2_kill, had to repeat four times to kill all running db2 processes
    2. ipclean -a
2a. as root AIX/UNIX admin run
    /usr/lpp/db2_07_01/cfg/db2ln to relink failed libraries

    3. db2iupdt instance_name (must be run as AIX/UNIX root user)
    from the /usr/lpp/db2_07_01/instance directory
the fixpack manual readme has a different command option that gave
    us problems

    4. db2start
    5. db2 backup db databasename to /dev/null to get database out
    of backup pending mode

    6. db2 connect to database

    We checked the db2level:
    # db2level

DB21085I Instance "db2inst1" uses DB2 code release "SQL07024" with level
    identifier "03050105" and informational tokens "DB2 v7.1.0.60", "s020313" and
    "U481406".

    Fixpack 6 installed

This was a challenging situation as the instructions in the readme notes and configuration guide had errors that caused problems.
