    - I've installed mysql-3.23.57-win in a Windows 98 into de c:\mysql directory.

    - Started the service with "c:\mysql\bin\winmysqladmin.exe" command
It asked me for the user and password. So, I set user: alan Password ****
The WinMySQLAdmin strated OK and shows the right user and password into the my.ini section.

    - I tried to create a database and here is the problem:
In the command line I wrote:
    c:\mysql\bin\mysql -ualan -p
MySql askme for the password and I enter the same as my.ini
    MySql respondme
"ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'alan@localhost' (Using password: YES)"

Does somebody knows what I'm doing wrong? or what step I missed?
    Thanks in advance.

It seems that the user and password set into the ... when the winmysqladmin.exe is strated or when my.ini isn't found isn't the data to enter to mysql...
I finally could get inse ussing:
    "c:\mysql\bin\mysql -u root"
(besides I already have done the user to alan into the winmysqladmin.exe and my.ini)
